Nano Banana is a family of image generation and editing models known for keeping characters and products consistent across many images. On Lunart you can pick from four versions: Nano Banana 2.1, Nano Banana 2, Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2 Lite. For most work, start with 2.1, use Pro for final high-detail images, and use Lite when you only need fast, low-cost drafts.
The four versions at a glance

Nano Banana 2.1, 2 and Pro each accept up to 14 reference images.
How to read this:
- Nano Banana 2.1 is the everyday default. It is the least expensive Nano Banana at 2K and 4K, handles clean localized edits, and is the only version with a selectable thinking level.
- Nano Banana 2 is the previous version. It costs more than 2.1 at every size but adds a 512 tier for small thumbnails. Use it when you prefer its results on a particular prompt.
- Nano Banana Pro is the high-fidelity version for final images: posters, commercial shots and dense compositions where detail and lettering matter. Its 2K price equals its 1K price, so if you use Pro, choose at least 2K.
- Nano Banana 2 Lite is 1K only at 4 credits, the lowest price in the Nano Banana family. Use it to test ideas and compositions before committing to a larger model.
Generate your first image
- Sign in and click New canvas.
- In the composer, switch the mode to Image.
- Open Select model and choose Nano Banana 2.1.
- Write your prompt and choose an aspect ratio and Resolution.
- Check the credit total in the composer, then click Generate.
Results appear on the canvas. Generate a few, then select the best one and keep refining.
Thinking level on Nano Banana 2.1
Nano Banana 2.1 has a Thinking setting with three levels:
| Level | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Fast | Simple subjects, quick iterations |
| Balanced | Most images with several elements |
| Deep | Complex layouts, many elements, text that must be exact |
Deeper levels take longer, follow detailed prompts more closely and render text more sharply.
Prompts: write a brief, not a keyword list
Nano Banana understands plain language well. Describe the image the way you would brief a photographer or designer:
- Subject + setting + style + purpose: "an iced latte on a wooden counter, soft morning window light, lifestyle magazine style, for an Instagram post".
- Quote any on-image text:
sign reading "Grand Opening". - For edits, say what changes and what stays: "change only the background to a beach at sunset; keep her face and outfit the same".
Consistent characters and products with up to 14 references
Consistency across a set of images is where Nano Banana does best. Nano Banana 2.1, 2 and Pro each accept up to 14 reference images:
- In the composer, click Add reference image, then upload from your device or choose from the canvas.
- In the prompt, type @ to point at each reference and give it a role, for example "the woman in @Reference 1 wearing the jacket from @Reference 2, standing on the street in @Reference 3".
- To produce a series (a comic, a brand mascot, a model in several poses), keep the same reference set and change only the action and setting in the prompt.
The more references you attach, the more each one's role should be spelled out.
Long banners and tall images: extreme aspect ratios
Nano Banana 2.1 and 2 support 14 aspect ratios, including the extreme 1:4, 4:1, 1:8 and 8:1. That means you can generate a website strip banner, a tall mobile graphic or a long product-detail image in one pass instead of stitching. Pro and Lite offer 10 standard ratios.

What Nano Banana does not do
- Transparent backgrounds: not available. Use Remove background on the result, or generate with GPT Image 2.5 and turn on Transparent background. See how to remove a background with AI.
- Outpainting and custom pixel sizes: these are GPT Image 2.5 features. See the GPT Image 2.5 guide.
Keep editing on the canvas
Every result stays on the infinite canvas. Select one to use Omni Edit (mark areas and describe the change), Upscale, Remove background, or Split layers to separate it into layers and export a PSD; see how to split an image into PSD layers.
Not sure whether Nano Banana or GPT Image 2.5 fits your project? The side-by-side comparison breaks it down by use case. To try Nano Banana now, open Lunart and pick it from the model list.
